John J. Lynch Junior High School
Class of 1953

Class History

After many unexpected delays the date of the dedication ceremonies of the John J. Lynch School finally arrived. Many of Holyoke's citizens flocked to our new school to witness a very inspiring dedication.
On the very first day of school eager students congregated in the courtyard, anxiously awaiting their first glimpse of their new environment. The first few days were spent in adjusting ourselves to now surroundings and classmates.
Soon we found ourselves fitting quite naturally into our new school life. Pupils began participating gladly in all extra-curricular activities. The spotless cafeteria and the more than satisfactory food made mealtimes a pleasure.
Our first activity in the new school was "Sports Night" which was a great success and excellently attended. Honor was brought to Lynch by our terrific varsity basketball team, which won the Western Massachusetts Championship.
Our Student Council sponsored a magazine drive to raise yearbook funds. This under-taking was a tremendous success and we raised more than ample money to cover the cost of this obviously fine yearbook.
Members of the Crossroads staff worked tirelessly in order that we might have a perfect yearbook. They all should be praised and congratulated on doing such a splendid job.
The Honor Society sponsored a victory dance honoring our basketball champs and cheerleaders. This was the first dance held in the new school and everyone had a splendid time.
Our school was introduced by radio to those who had not become acquainted with it. Some of us participated in this informative program which consisted of an imaginary tour through the building.
The last few weeks of school were spent in preparing for a magnificent graduation ceremony.
Words cannot express our sorrow at the thought of leaving this wonderful school. We can only say that the months spent within its walls will never be forgotten and the guidance and interest of our teachers will always be appreciated. We leave this school as better students, as better citizens, and we leave to you who will remain the task of proving your-selves worthy of such a great privilege as attending the John J. Lynch Junior High School.
