CHAPTER XV.
SCHOOL PHYSICIAN AND NURSES.


Rule 1. School physicians and nurses shall be elected by majority vote of the full Board, under Civil Service rules, from an eligible list submitted by the Massachusetts Civil Service Commission.

Rule 2. They shall visit schools regularly, according to schedules approved by the Superintendent and at other times as directed.

Rule 3. They shall examine all children referred to them by teachers and principals for inspection.

Rule 4. School physicians shall investigate regularly the sanitary conditions of school buildings; shall make physical tests required by law; shall examine applicants for employment certificates; shall enforce the regulations regarding the exclusion and re-admission of children on account of communicable diseases, and shall cooperate with the Board of Health and all other local agencies in promoting the physical welfare of the pupils.

Rule 5. School nurses shall assist the school physicians, and shall visit the homes of the pupils to urge the correction of physical defects.

Rule 6. Neither school nurses or physicians may give treatment except in case of accident or emergency, nor offer their services or recommend other physicians for the treatment of public school children. School physicians, however, may vaccinate pupils, with the written consent of the parents.

Rule 7. They shall file a weekly report of their activities with the Superintendent of Schools.
